Opening Doors

February 3, 2019

I was delighted to learn that my story The Laundry Room Comes First from Fiction Southeast was selected for inclusion in the forthcoming Best Microfiction 2019 anthology (Pelekinesis). It was also lovely to hear that the historical flash fiction piece Balm was nominated by FlashBack Fiction as a candidate for a Pushcart Prize. And, so, a huge thank you to the editors and publishers who sift through tons of new stories on their desks every month and open doors to people like me. After years of writing for newsrooms and institutional clients, I recently went back to my first love and started asking literary editors to publish my fiction in print or online (I've included an image of one of two stories from my first-ever anthology publication). I’m grateful to those who have chosen my stories over the past couple of years and honored to receive that extra bit of acknowledgement that comes with awards and nominations. Thanking the people who publish your stories is also a way of putting a spotlight on the work that they do. So, happy reading....
